Finance and mortgage broking continues to attract attention as a worthwhile career, with RTOs attracting a significant increase in new entrants taking the first step to join our wonderful industry.
Bringing quality, educated and ethical operators into our industry has solidified its strength, and is paramount to ensuring the continued strength of mortgage broking.
Teaching and mentoring new entrants is a heavy responsibility that requires time, patience and knowledge. Not every mortgage broker is a good candidate as a mentor, and some brokers are much better mentors than others.
To be perfectly honest some brokers should not be mentors, additionally there should be some rules around the following:
- Mentor numbers
- Training philosophy
- Mentor material
- Information availability
- Following of Audit procedures
With the boom in online methods (i.e. Teams and Zoom) there really is no excuse for mentors not to provide ongoing online training to ensure new brokers get started with the correct educational footing to ensure it’s a smooth and successful transition into broking.
The days of aggregator BDMs signing off as mentor to scores of new brokers just to tick a box are well and truly behind us. The MFAA and the FBAA have an obligation to monitor mentor programs to ensure corners are not being cut.
If new brokers are left to their own devices borrowers are at risk.
At Vision Aggregation, we have been at the forefront of developing high quality mentor programs that are industry-leading in:
- Educational Standards
Our recent mentor offering has been very well received and the number of high quality candidates joining our program has never been higher.
Remember, success is not about how much money you make. Success is about providing the best option for your clients.
Whether that is a mortgage broker or broker mentor, I call it the ‘3 R’s‘
