How did you get into the mortgage broking industry?

Fourteen years ago, it was my first home purchase experience in Sydney and was not very pleasant. From there, I realised the necessity of a Mandarin speaking mortgage broker for Chinese immigrants in Sydney. With my background in finance and accounting, I decided to take the opportunity and develop a career in mortgage. I applied for a broker assistant position in a leading mortgage firm, and my journey started from there.

What do you like most about the industry?

If you look at the Chinese writing of “blessing / good fortune”, it is a combination of the character of people and land. In our culture, we believed house is the foundation of a happy home. The mortgage industry allows me to help my clients to build up and develop this foundation. I feel honoured and valued to be able to assist my clients with their dream home and happiness.

Who is your favourite lender and why?

Westpac. The logo of Westpac is in China Red. And China Red is a sign of flourish and lucky.

What would advice would you offer someone joining the industry?

Stay passionate and focus on the client’s experience.

How / when did you join Vision?

August 2019. I switched over straight away with no hesitation. It took some time to do the paperwork, and we were officially on board with Vision in Sept 2019.

What do you do in your spare time?

I enjoy food & wine! Nothing can compare to a fine meal with family, exploring new restaurants, trying different cuisines with my husband. My husband is a professional chef, and the best thing about having a chef husband is to have the honour to try all his creative new recipes, enjoy finely prepared ingredients pairing with the perfect wine at home.

What challenges are you facing with the current climate?

We are encountering challenges from 2 aspects.

Challenges from the lender – uncertain market movement leads to frequent policy changes, facing massive increase of workload.

Challenges from the clients – quite a few of my existing clients see opportunities from uncertainties, results in increase in volume of enquiries.

If you won $10M tomorrow, what would you do?

No doubt 50% of that will go to charity to help kids in Australia. After giving birth, I noticed how sensitive I became when it comes to children. It squeezes my heart to see kids suffering from illness or family issues. I hope all children get a chance to grow up with love, care and health. So definitely, if I have the capability, it will be on my priority list to reach out and help children in Australia. The remainder 50% will no surprise end up in bank to clear the mortgage!!

Describe what you were like in high school in 3 words

Ambitious, passionate, full of curiosity.

What makes you laugh?

During my pre-Mum life, I would put on Russell Peter’s show on TV, pour myself some red wine, snuggle up on the sofa and laugh throughout the night. Nowadays, watching my baby boy grow puts the most smile on my face.
